Yin Nong and Swee Ping's Princess

Yi Ting came to this world at a weight of 3.35 kg. My first impression when i received Yin Nong's sms announcing the good news was "Wow! It is a huge achievement for Swee Ping to naturally deliver a baby of such weight as she is some how skinny :)"

Boon Seong, Boon Ee, Tian Poh and I made good use of the Deepavali holiday to pay Yi Ting a visit and here are some photos to share! We sure feel happy for the proud parents!

Hakka Connexion

"All people are migrants on this earth, in time and space.
There is but one race - the human race.
Knowing our root is to better understand and respect other people's roots.
Preserve our cultural heritage to promote diversity and not hegemony."

Very well said! The quote above was seen hanging on the wall of this unique eatery, the Hakka Connexion which serves Hakka delicacies situated at Jalan Bawasah behind Dorsett Hotel and Giant Jalan Burmah, Penang.

The food served here was not superb to me, but it is a unique place in a sense that beside the eatery, lies the Memorial of the late Tan Sri Wong Pow Nee, the first Chief Minister of Penang. The owner of the eatery was the son of the late Tan Sri.

The wisdom that lies in between the quote...

Pictures were seen on the wall of the eatery, tracing the root of the Hakkas from Hongkeng Village, Yongding County

5 Minutes Management Course

Lesson 1:
A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.
The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbor.
Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.'
After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves.
The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs.
When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?'
'It was Bob the next door neighbor,' she replies.
'Great,' the husband says, 'did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?'

Moral of the story:

If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2:

A priest offered a Nun a lift.
She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident.
After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg.
The nun said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?'
The priest removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again.
The nun once again said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?'
The priest apologized 'Sorry sister but the flesh is weak.'
Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way.
On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, 'Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory.'

Moral of the story:

If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity.

Lesson 3:

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.
They rub it and a Genie comes out.
The Genie says, 'I'll give each of you just one wish.'
'Me first! Me first!' says the admin clerk. 'I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.' Puff! She's gone.

'Me next! Me next!' says the sales rep. 'I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.'
Puff! He's gone.

'OK, you're up,' the Genie says to the manager.

The manager says, 'I want those two back in the office after lunch.'

Moral of the story:

Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 4

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing. A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, 'Can I also sit like you and do nothing?'
The eagle answered: 'Sure, why not.'
So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story:

To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 5

A turkey was chatting with a bull.
'I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree' sighed the turkey, 'but I haven't got the energy.'
'Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?' replied the bull. They're packed with nutrients.'
The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.
The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.
Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree. He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:

Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there..

Lesson 6

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.
While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.
As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.
The dung was actually thawing him out!
He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.
A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.
Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story:

(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
(3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

ADSL Router + Wireless Router Configuration

Pheww!! I finally got my Internet access at home back to normal...

We have been experiencing intermittent connection problem at home since the week before Raya and the connection finally came to a halt two days before Raya. Calls after calls to the Streamyx support at 100 (for those who are not aware, Telekom has standardized all their service hotline to 100), the technician who attended to our problem identified that our modem is the culprit. It decided to retire after serving us for 2 years plus. I got ourselves a new DLINK DSL-520B ADSL Router and after some setup, managed to connect to the Internet through direct LAN cable connection.

Now come the problem. Our old ADSL modem is just a modem, it doesn't need any setting and can be directly configured by the wireless router (Linksys WRT54G). Now, with the new ADSL router, how can i configure 2 routers to enable us to go online wirelessly?

I finally found a way and i thought i better jot it down here just in case i need to do the same configuration again! Searching through the Internet while i was trying to solve the problem, there was not much comprehensive explanation about how a proper setting can be done. Since i have gone through all the pain, i do hope that this will serve as a guideline for those who might need to do the same configuration in the future. (Note: If you are using the new Linksys Wireless-N Router, WRT310N which i just bought for office use, it is intelligent enough to configure itself through the quick setup)

If you found this useful or you came across other ways of configuring such setup, do drop a note or two so that other readers will benefit.

ADSL Router Setting:
* Set through direct LAN cable connection
1. Set connection type to "PPPoE" and key in your PPP username (i.e abc@streamyx) and password
2. Enable the Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports option
3. Enable WAN service option
4. Set the IP to be 192.168.1.1 and Subnet Mask to be 255.255.255.0
5. Enable the DHCP server with a valid entry for start and end IP following the IP you set earlier (i.e Start : 192.168.1.2, End : 192.168.1.1o) and Subnet Mask to be 255.255.255.0

Wireless Router Setting:
* Set through direct LAN cable connection - ensure the LAN cable was plugged into one of the 4 router port instead of the Internet port
1. Set Internet Connection Type to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP"
2. Set IP address to 192.168.2.1 and Subnet Mask to be 255.255.255.0
3. Enable DHCP Server with a valid entry for start and end IP address (i.e 192.168.2.2 - 192.168.2.10). Take note that you can only change the last number of the IP address but the router will automatically change the first 3 number to match your IP address after you save the setting.

With this, we are done! My experience is that you need to wait for a while for the PC to acquire the IP after the setting before you can go online.
